Why Mentorship?

There are many benefits to participating in KEF’s Mentorship Program. As you begin your adventure through college, there are a things you’ll need to learn in order to succeed in college and make the best of your experience. The first thing you should know about college is that it should be an enjoyable experience. This is your opportunity to learn about different fields, explore the arts, and discover who you are as an adult. KEF has resources available to help you succeed, pay for college and how to set career goals. KEF is here to encourage you through scholarship opportunities, the counsel and guidance from mentors.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • I just graduated from high school and need to figure out my college plans, now what do I do?
  • I wish I knew somebody that I could talk to about getting prepared for college.
  • I wonder if there is someone I could talk to that was in the same field of study.
  • Adjusting to life away from home is difficult. I wish I had someone to talk to about it.

Words of Advice from Mentor to Mentee:

  1. Protect your GPA; consider dropping a class rather than receiving a bad grade.
  2. You are the average of the three people you spend most of your time with.
  3. There are most likely tutoring centers on your campus. You should check them out!
  4. Talk to an academic counselor to make sure you’re on track to fulfill your degree requirements.
  5. Don’t try to do homework in your dorm room, or anywhere else full of distractions. Libraries are a great example of an appropriate study center.
  6. Don’t be a complete bookworm. Don’t only be a social butterfly. Find a happy medium by budgeting your time wisely.
  7. Continue to apply for scholarships every year while you’re at college, even small ones. Every little bit helps.
  8. On-campus jobs are a great way to make a little money and meet people, if you have time for one.
  9. Be selective about your friends and roommates. The people around you have a lot of influence over your life. Choose people who will encourage you to be a good person.
