Alicia Parsons
KEF Mentor
Alicia Parsons was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. She graduated from Inglemoor High School, Kenmore, Washington in 2002 with high school and International Baccalaureate diplomas and Westmont College, Santa Barbara, California in 2006 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and minor in Chemistry. She is currently a 4th year Doctorate of Medicine and Master’s of Public Health (MD/MPH) student at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. This year she is focusing on her MPH studies through an extended quality improvement project at Los Angeles Christian Health Centers, a group of Federally qualified health centers providing adult and pediatric primary care and other necessary health services to 6,000 homeless and poor patients in Los Angeles, California. After completing her MPH project she will return to Boston to finish her MD studies at Tufts with anticipated graduation in 2012. Following graduation Alicia hopes to match into a family medicine residency focusing on care for poor and underserved patients to best prepare for future work within these communities in the United States and abroad.
Alicia has been a KEF scholarship recipient since 2007 and a Mentor since 2009. Her Alutiiq heritage stems from her grandmother, Selma Parsons, who was born and raised on Kodiak Island. Her father, M. Brent Parsons, has been involved with Koniag since before she was born and served on the shareholder committee from 2001 to 2004, and as a board member from November 2005 to present. Although she has never lived on Kodiak, Alicia has experienced Kodiak’s beauty, both physically and culturally, through visits, family stories and involvement with KEF. Alicia enjoys being a Mentor because she gets to connect with students who share her Alutiiq heritage and use what she has learned in her academic career to help other students on their own academic journeys.
Outside of her MD/MPH studies and involvement with KEF, Alicia enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering with church and the Christian Medical and Dental Association at Tufts.
