This scholarship is named in honor of Mr. Glenn Godfrey Sr., Aleut political and social leader who was raised on Kodiak Island. Glenn spent much time in rural Alaska with the Alaska State Troopers. He created the Village Public Safety Officer program and was director of the Alaska State Troopers.
Upon his retirement, he was appointed to Governor Knowles' cabinet as the Commissioner of Public Safety. Mr. Godfrey was the first Alaska Native in both posts. This scholarship was established to help applicants pursue self-improvement and positive leadership qualities.
